On October 17, 2024, the Somali Architecture Association, in collaboration with Simad Innovation and American Corner Mogadishu, successfully held a significant program focused on the theme “Somali Architecture and Architects: Past, Present, and Future.” The event attracted over 150 architecture students from various institutions in Mogadishu, highlighting the growing interest in architectural discourse among the youth.

Program Highlights

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Bahja Shurie, the Director of SimadLab, who opened the session with inspiring remarks. She emphasized the importance of architecture in shaping Somali identity and the role of young architects in the nation’s future development.

The program featured a keynote speech by Arch Geelle, a prominent architect and urban planner, who shared his insights on the evolution of Somali architecture. His presentation covered various historical and contemporary aspects, providing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by Somali architects today.

The program concluded with an insightful ending speech from Amina Nor, the Dean of the Architecture Faculty of Engineering at SIMAD University.
